Demetrius Smith, LGSW
Demetrius earned his Master's of Social Work from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He is licensed in New Jersey and Washington, District of Columbia. He enjoys working with various marginalized communities including: people experiencing homelessness, individuals who faced incarceration, people struggling with substance abuse/misuse and alcohol/misuse, people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTIIA+) community, young adults age 17 and older, and individuals struggling with life stressors/transitions, suicidal thoughts, or just someone to talk to.
Demetrius is extremely excited to partner with you on your journey towards positive change using a variety of therapeutic techniques including acceptance and commitment therapy, solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. While therapy can sometimes be challenging, Demetrius clients often describe their sessions as engaging and even fun. He enjoys helping people process their emotions, and leave hopeful and motivated for the future. He takes a personalized approach to therapy, focusing on creating a treatment plan that is tailored to each individual client’s unique needs and goals.
Demetrius philosophy is that therapy should be engaging and thought provoking experience where clients feels safe and supported throughout the process. They should leave each session feeling heard and understood with new insights and perspectives to help them grow.
